Brain games for kids, brain teasers for adults

Brainbean is a new type of app that promotes creative thinking though a series of free games designed around creative and psychological scientific research.

Unlike traditional “brain training” apps, Brainbean isn’t going to make you more intelligent. Instead, the app is designed to promote creativity and imaginative thinking through elegant design, state-of-the-art technology on the iPad, and fun exercises that challenge the brain.

Currently available for Apple iPad.

Changing the way we think about creativity

Over the last several years alone, research into how our brains are able to generate novel and imaginative ideas has more than doubled.

With a deeper understanding of the structures and systems that make up the brain, we now know with some certainty that creativity is an innate ability.

Yet we continue to think about creativity as a very unique trait. We educate children to believe that being creative is a rare gift, one that means you must ignore analytical thinking or embrace an artistic lifestyle. The reality is far from that perception.

We need to change the way we think about and educate creative thinking. It’s time to think of creativity as an innate ability that can be strengthened through exercise and deep thinking. The learning games within Brainbean are the perfect way to do that.

Brainbean has been designed to be one of the first apps with the sole intent of encouraging the core attributes of creativity: curiosity, observation, exploration, resourcefulness, and action.

“Research shows that human beings are born with an innate desire to explore, experiment and imagine new possibilities ‒ to innovate. How do children learn such skills? In a word ‒ through play. And it’s not just infants and children who learn through play…”

Who made Brainbean?

My name is Tanner Christensen. I’m an independent developer from Salt Lake City, Utah.

Over the last decade I’ve researched and written about what it means to be creative. Along the way I started Creative Something, a blog where I share my creative discoveries, knowledge, and inspiration. I’ve also developed several creativity apps in addition to Brainbean, including Prompts, oflow, and Drwer.

I am a lead contributor to 99U by Behance (part of the Adobe family) and tweet daily inspiration or insights. You can learn more about me on my personal site at tannerc.com.
